MP INVITES NATWEST TO NARBERTH TO DISCUSS BANK CLOSURES
Simon Hart MP has invited bosses from NatWest Bank to hold a meeting in Pembrokeshire to explain their decision to close their branches in Narberth and Pembroke.
“A number of people have got in touch with me to say they are really disappointed with the bank’s decision to close,” explained Mr Hart.
“It is a loss to personal banking customers who will now have to travel to Haverfordwest or Carmarthen to pay in cheques and the like but it’s an even more serious blow to the many local businesses and shops who rely on having a bank on their doorstep.”
NatWest announced last week that it is closing 20 banks across Wales next summer including branches in Pembroke and Narberth. The Pembroke branch is due to close in May and the Narberth one in June 2018.
He is now organising a meeting between community leaders, chambers of trade and the bank which will take place in the New Year.
“This is a very big blow to rural communities, the NatWest in Tenby closed two years ago so now customers from Pembroke will face a 20 mile round trip to Haverfordwest or Milford Haven to do their banking.”
