A total of 77 jobs were on offer in St Peter’s Civic Hall in Carmarthen when Simon Hart MP held his second Carmarthenshire Jobs Fair.
Around 100 jobseekers came through the doors to visit the 25 employers and organisations – and many left with jobs or interviews.
“I know that some interviews were done there and then and jobs offers made which is wonderful,” said Mr Hart. “If only one person got a job as a result then it was worth organising.”
Among those who took stands were Princes Gate Water, Debenhams, McDonalds, children’s charity Cerebra and the National Botanic Garden.
Jayne Davies, store trainer for Debenhams in Carmarthen had 12 posts to fill. She said: “Coming along was definitely worthwhile, I have interviewed several candidates today. The good thing is that you get to meet the person. We will be offering some jobs.”
The Fair was held in the week it was announced that unemployment has fallen to below two million for the first time since 2008. In Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire the jobless total was 361 lower than at the same time last year.
Jobseeker Zoe Jones from Alltwallis found a job at last year’s event and was back after choosing to leave that position. “I decided to move on to try a new venture but the last Jobs Fair was good, it was nice to go around and see what was on offer.”
Mr Hart added: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to all the employers and organisations who made the event possible.”
